Coco with a Tree on his Walk-Path

After Saturday night’s oil massage, Coco had a wet towel bath on last Sunday morning. Coco does not protest much during scrubbing by a wet towel now. He allows his face, back and arms to be rubbed by a wet towel, first, and then by a dry towel. He can also take his vitamin tablets with food but revolts if any spray is to be applied to any cuts on his body. He is growing taller and uses his legs to push away anybody trying to hold him for any work.

On his walk this morning, Coco stopped in the middle of the road to sniff something stuck on the ground. This is his regular habit. He has to be dragged across the road for the road bridge to continue his walk. Early mornings are unpredictable for cars and e(lectronic)-rickshaws. They appear suddenly and expect clean roads to speed their way.

Coco must disturb crows and squirrels enjoying their morning feed together. This morning he jumped at them as they were occupying his path. The birds returned fast. Coco is watchful if any other dog is taking a walk too. Other than a couple of pets on leash, there are quite a few stray dogs who can appear suddenly around the area.

On the cycle-path across the bridge, Coco enjoys examining the large stones and wild grass on the two sides. He is quite suspicious of this path and keeps looking at the back and the front. Any spot where he has not visited as a child he does not trust and must be cautious.

His walk-path in front of the multi-storeyed flats is dotted with trees. These trees were planted over three decades back, just as the housing societies were getting occupied by their owners. The trees have grown up strong and have large green cover most of the year. Coco enjoys digging ground at the bottom of the trees.

What Coco does not like is sudden breaks of running cars or e-rickshaws. They surprise him and he jumps on the pavement. He is yet to develop immunity to the road-traffic which continues to grow and run whole day. The other dogs are not alarmed by the running of vehicles. Coco fears the vehicles coming close to him, and their doors opening and slamming with force.

Coco’s walk-path is always full of people. Metro commuters are going towards the Metro station or returning home after work. Most men and women remain calm and undisturbed by the presence of a dog. Only a few get cautious and want to know if the dog is safe. Coco likes to watch women dressed up like his Mom and wants to follow them. He does not believe easily his Mom is at home waiting to receive him and give him his snacks and water.
