Out of house, this morning, Coco’s eyes looked out for the large white bully dog. Forgetting he is out for his daily round, he wanted to focus on the bully on the other side of the road. The big guy was looking for the female he has been pursuing for some days. The change of season is behind his attraction. Coco finally went across to the road-bridge and sniffed the ground and wild growth. He can’t tolerate crows and pigeons enjoying their morning feed spread on the pavement. As he nears them, he jumps at the gathering and the whole bunch of birds flies away. Coco resumes his normal walk and sniffs his way to the cycle-path for the first part of his walk.

While he looks for his favourite spots, he must not be disturbed by any noise or persons walking around. Vehicles and cars can run nearby, but if they rattle on potholes or speed-breakers, he stops and looks around. After every few steps, he must look behind and forward. He remembers all the people and the Belgian Malinois who pass that way. A milk vendor on his motorcycle with large cans of milk passed that secluded spot. Coco stood by one side and let the noisy traffic pass by.

On the second part of his walk in front of the multi-storeyed housing societies, Coco is on familiar ground. But he misses the people he is used to seeing there. A bunch of dogs lives around the Metro parking lot on the other side of the road. If they don’t show up, Coco can’t believe. After every few steps, he looks across the road. Finally, the oldest among them showed up this morning and Coco noticed his tail behind a car. Coco paused and would not move. The bunch is not friendly towards him but he must know what they are up to.

Coco’s walk on the path is normal, except that he gets easily shocked by any strange sound. He jumps and starts pulling me if a battery-driven rickshaw suddenly stops near him, or starts for another round of transporting Metro commuters. He has been seeing the rickshaws for quite some time, still he does not like their sound. The municipal sweeper is welcome but his large broom gathering fallen tree-leaves disturbs him. This morning too, Coco danced around the broom as it rubbed the ground and moved ahead.

Coco watches every Metro commuter walking to the Metro gate. He does not understand why some men cover their heads with a large handkerchief or women with a long cloth. He sees danger in many small things. This morning he wanted to follow a tall man taking long steps with a blue cloth on his head. His curiosity can go to any length. He must examine a large polythene bag stuck to ground by wheels of passing-by vehicles in the middle of the road.
